Excerpt/passage used as inspiration:
“I was surprised by how easy the act of leaving was, and how good it felt.” Neal Cassidy said that in Jack Kerouac’s On the Road. I had similar feelings leaving my cushy Southern California home heading to New York City to see America by bus, train and hitch-hiking. I visited homes in Pennsylvania’s Amish Country; got a tense ride with hillbilly in North Carolina; and walked through (and photographed) the crime-infested South Bronx neighborhood soon to be depicted in the 1981 movie “Fort Apache.”
